NOMAD Digital has successfully completed trials of its revolutionary system for providing a high-speed wireless internet service on trains.
The Newcastle company has carried out tests of its WiFi technology on more than 1,000km of track on the UK rail network at train speeds of up to 125mph.
And in one journey between Edinburgh and London Kings Cross more than 18 million kilo bytes of data were transferred to and from the train - a faster Internet access than is available with current broadband connections to the home.
Graeme Lowdon, chief executive, said: "We are delighted with the results of these trials, they went even better than we expected. We were the first company to do on-train trials in the UK and this keeps us at the forefront.
"We are now aware that virtually every major rail franchise in the UK has expressed some interest in providing these kinds of services to their customers."
