Chester-le-Street Town: Town Juniors striker Chris Laws scored all his side's goals in Saturday's 6-0 demolition of West Denton at Slateyford Road in Newcastle.

Laws was in no mood for complacency in the Juniors last match before their huge 3rd Round F.A. Youth Cup encounter with Derby County at Pride Park at the beginning of December.

The floodgates were kept firmly closed by West Denton until the 35th minute when man of the moment Laws picked the ball up from 25 yards and beat the home goalkeeper with a powerful left foot drive that nestled in the far corner of the net. Within three minutes Laws got on the end of Ian Glazinski's fine through ball to make it 2-0. He completed his hat-trick when he beat two defenders before rounding the goalkeeper to fire home.

There was no let up in the second half when Gavin Stoker's fine breaking run from midfield cut through the home defence before he cleverly slipped the ball to Laws to make it four. The striker then fired two great goals from the right hand side of the box to complete his double hat-trick by the 77th minute.

West Denton struggled to cope with a Chester-le-Street side in fine form but the individual performance of the day was clear for all to see.

Brompton

Brompton Under-10s A made a dynamic start to their game versus New Marske A with the first goal almost coming within the first two minutes after a through-ball from Chris Holmes found Mark Watkinson who fired at the New Marske goal only to see his attempt cleared by the outstretched foot of a New Marske defender.

The ensuing corner from Chris Holmes floated into the middle of a melee of players, the ball glancing temptingly from Daniel Macfarlane's head towards Thomas Armstrong who had to spin through 360 degrees to orientate himself for a stunning strike which found the back of the net. Three more attacks ensued involving Chris Holmes, Thomas Armstrong and Daniel Macfarlane from mid-field, the ball peppering New Marske's goal area until finally a dramatic run from Robert Maclean from deep in defence was ended by a late challenge in the New Marske penalty box. Mark Watkinson coolly converted the penalty to give Brompton a 2-0 lead. The rest of the first half was memorable for a series of wonderful attacking moves by Brompton which all ended in a failure to provide a finish equal to their mid-field dominance. Half-time score 2-0.

The second half began with a transformed New Marske launching attacks on Brompton's goal. These were well defended, as ever, by David Holmes and Joe Richards, completing his first full match in goal. This half was memorable for totally the opposite reasons to the first half as man of the match, (as nominated by the New Marske coach), David Holmes, defended relentlessly against a revitalised front trio from New Marske. Goals which left Joe Richards no chance were scored by Jack Green (2) and Liam Pearson for New Marske. Final score 3-2 to New Marske.

Brompton Under-10 B enjoyed a very competitive game against Linthorpe Falcons who took the lead after Brompton failed to clear from defence. Brompton had several chances before Oliver Lowther after a dribbling run set up George Austick with a well taken goal. The sides went in 1-1 at half time with Brompton putting Falcons under pressure. The second half started with Brompton's backs to the wall with some desperate defending. Oliver Welham made some excellent saves to keep Brompton in the match; however Falcons scored a second goal and although Brompton rallied they just couldn't convert their chances. Both sides played some good football in an entertaining match, final score 2-1 to Falcons.

Brompton Under-16s were playing against Spartans and in another cracker of a game involving Brompton they at last managed to win one. That said, the game was only ten minutes old when Spartans were 2-0 up. First of all Robinson pulled off a fine save only to see the ball land at the Spartans forwards feet to easily slot home and then there was a screamer of a shot from the edge of the box which left him no chance at all.

Brompton then started to play and a free kick from Rose just eluded the bar. Having started to put together some passes Brompton were looking dangerous but it wasn't until the 35th minute that they actually got a goal back. It was worth waiting for though with Pinkney playing a ball out of defence to Brockhurst who drilled an angled ball across to left winger Rose who took the ball cleanly turned his marker and fired into the top corner.

Eddleston and Henderson replaced Waldron and Marley at half time with Carson and Johnson joining later for Johnston and McNicholas. On the ascendancy you would have thought that Brompton would have the grit between their teeth and they did but it didn't stop Spartans taking a 3-1 lead when a ball over the top of defence was lashed home easily by the Spartans forward.

Back came Brompton and Rose again was the scorer with a neat turn in the box sending him clear of the defence to slot the ball into the corner of the net. He was also unfortunate not to get his hat-trick when through clear on goal having beaten the keeper only to be brought down on the edge of the box.

Spartans regained their two goal advantage after Brompton went to three at the back and substitute Henderson wasn't letting Rose have all the glory slipping the ball home from the edge of the box past the bemused Robinson for an own goal.

Again Brompton roared back and Brockhurst burst down the right wing to feed Chapman on the run who fired the ball into the net.

Charles Glahome then got into the game and sent an excellent pass through for Rose to deservedly complete his hat trick with a coolly if unconvincing finish.

Glahome was again heavily involved as he twisted and turned in the penalty box only to be clumsily brought down by a Spartans defender for the clearest penalty decision Ken Toner will ever have had to make. Rose brimming with confidence struck the ball home to seal the win for Brompton.

Spartans will feel hard done by having led for 90 per cent of the game and a draw may have been a fair result for both sides' endeavors but Brompton's man of the match James Rose proved to be the difference with his four goals. At the other end Stephen Adamson took the runner up spot for his commitment with his partner Pinkney, Captain Brockhurst, Glahome, McNicholas and Chapman all showing well.
