Darlington Spraire Lasses: Spraire Under-13s battled boldly but were unable to get the better of a strong Blyth side losing 6-1 at home.
Blyth took an early lead in the first minute with a neatly taken goal. Joanna Dinsdale made some fine saves throughout the game earning her the girl of the match award, Laura Spence and Sophie Lineton had to work hard in defence to hold back the towering Blyth centre forward.
Spraire came close to equalizing with Laura Gowling and captain Rachel McKnight both hitting the side netting. Laura Gowling clawed a goal back in the first half but it was not enough to stop Blyth taking the points.
Darlington Spraire Lasses Under-16s turned on an excellent display of skills and teamwork to defeat Rutherford.
Darlington were in control from the kick off after a few missed chances Danni Shutt struck the first blow latching on to a superb pass from Claire Moses tapped the ball past the Rutherford keeper. The second goal came with another cross from Claire Moses to Danni Shutt running in to place the ball in the left hand corner with her left foot. With Rutherford in disarray a run down the left hand side by Claire Moses and the defence opened up and Claire took the third goal. Seconds before half time Kathryn Clarke scored a brilliant fourth goal when she saw the goalie off her line and accurately chipped from the half way mark.
The second half started with the efforts of the Darlington defence Stacey Crang, Laura Mather and sisters Rachael and Rebecca Brabbs foiling any hint of attack from a determined Rutherford. Throughout the game they took possession of the ball and linked well with the forwards turning defence into attack. It was from a clearance collected by Danni Shutt that the fifth goal came when she trickled the ball through the fumbling fingers of the Rutherford keeper to complete her hat trick. At the other end of the pitch the safe hands of the Darlington keeper Chloe Atkinson were forced to make some fine diving saves and a dive at the feet of the Rutherford Centre Forward saved what looked to be a certain goal.
Kathryn Clarke carved her way through the opposition with a jinking run to take the last of the Darlington goals.
With four minutes remaining Rutherford scored a consolation from a corner followed by a scramble in front of the goal mouth.
Final score was Spraire Lasses 6, Rutherford 1.
