Durham League Division One Cup, East Durham & Houghall Comm. College A v Trimdon Comm. College: The beginning was an even game with Lee Norton the only threat for Trimdon and Davie kept College close.

A Ditchburn foul followed by two technical fouls gave College the edge that they were looking for and they never looked back. With the second quarter Davie pushed College on with some great baskets, Armstrong and Norton, the only Trimdon players to extend their team. Good defence from Foster, Fenwick, P Johnson helped to extend the College lead to 42-30. At the half Trimdon came out with a lot of zest and passion but sadly it took five minutes for that period to fade taking ten minutes to score. A 30-0 College run sealed Trimdon's fate and with seven minutes left the game was won for College 94-47.

Division Two

Consett Steelers v Teesside Huskies

Both teams came into the game looking for a win to help their league position in the early stages of the season. Consett started brightly exploiting the Huskies man-to-man defence as it was slow to get to grips with the task ahead. With Matt Patterson having his way in the paint and Huskies missing a key player early on, Consett were able to establish the early lead at 26 to 18. After the first break Huskies started with a stronger line up with Nyllo joining the game. The difference was obvious, as the Huskies had switched defensive assignments to stop Consett's scoring threats and had added to their offensive potency. Huskies steamed back into the game and headed into the half leading 51 to 43. Huskies momentum carried into the second half, heading into a 20 to 8 burst. The final four minutes saw tides reverse as Consett came to life, heading into their own run of 17 to 8. With a quarter to go, a comeback was on the cards with Consett trimming the Huskies lead to 11 points. However, the Huskies weren't willing to let Consett back into the game and re-established and maintained their lead at 104 to 88. Yet, there was still time for some drama. With three minutes remaining Dan Patterson made his own run, hitting two consecutive three-point baskets and then gaining an and-one, hauling the Huskies lead back down to six. Patterson missed the free throw but Consett gathered the rebound, converted and brought the lead down to five at 104 to 109. Another Patterson steal and conversion, saw the Huskies lead down to three with only a minute left to play. The Huskies were able to hold up the ball and draw a foul. Converting one of the two, they led by four. With 30 seconds left Consett missed a quick three, Huskies broke and added to their tally. Game over for Consett as Huskies were now too far ahead. Five seconds later and a quick Consett basket saw the game end at 112 to 108 to the away team.

Division Two Cup

Old Houghtonians v Shildon Lace Gold Strollers

The first half was a closely fought affair as Houghton's Anthony Burdis consistently drained three pointer after three pointer whilst Shildon kept up with the pace with some important baskets from Mal Ballard, Pattison and Lowe to make the half time score close at 40-34 to the Houghton outfit. The second half was a completely different story as Houghton opened up an unassailable lead as their outstanding defence shut down Shildon to only 12 points, adding 31 points of their own, through some neat touches from Nathan Jenner and Paul Carr.

Belmont Pumas v M'brough College

the Pumas started on top with El Nayal causing the opposition some problems inside the College defence. This was matched by Middlesbrough's Adu who used god shot selection to match the score. With Francis contributing some late rebounds College wound moved into a seven point, first quarter lead. The second quarter turned into a disaster for the Pumas as foul trouble and missed shots allowing Dabiri and Armory to lead College to what looked to be an impregnable 50-31 lead at the end of the half. College's run was extended to the beginning of the second half when Archenoul's good inside play giving College 26 point head start into the final quarter. However the tide quickly turned and with sloppy defending and lazy fouls, Mark Elderkin's nine points in four minutes began to unsettle Middlesbrough. Sabate also contributed 7 points in the proceeding three minutes. Time was on College's side however as the clock ran down even though a 11 point flourish.

Division Three

Hartlepool CJ Hydraulics v Wear Valley Wolverines

The Hydraulics collected their second win in a row at the Avondale Centre last week through some fantastic team basketball. Michael Macklam was a star for the Hartlepool team. Wear Valley's young side kept battling on however, under Stephen Shovlin and Ian Hirst's guidance producing some good players for the future. it was Hartlepool's youngsters who shone this night and their domineering form took the game forcefully by a score of 68-41.
