A GROUP of prison officers notched up an athletic achievement and raised £5,000 for disabled people.
The officers, from Frankland Prison, were all sponsored to take part in this year's Great North Run.
At a ceremony yesterday, Governor of HMP Frankland's Westgate Unit, Dave Matthews, presented a £5,000 cheque to Finchale Training College for the Disabled.
Principal of the college, Dr David Etheridge, said: "The staff from HMP Frankland and the Prison Officers' Charity Fund have done a lot for us over the years.
"Their considerable efforts fundraising on our behalf shows HMP Frankland in a very positive light and we are extremely grateful for their support."
