FINAL approval for a nature reserve on a Darlington estate is expected to be granted by councillors next week.
Members of Darlington Borough Council's cabinet will be asked to approve the release of more than £89,000 for the Maidendale project on Firthmoor at a meeting on Tuesday.
Estate residents obtained funding from the scheme from external sources, including the European Regional Development Fund, the Single Regeneration Budget, the New Opportunities Fund and Investors in People.
They will run the nature reserve themselves, but Darlington council will be responsible for its financial management.
The nature reserve will give estate residents somewhere to fish and watch wildlife.
A Get Hooked on Fishing scheme, similar to one on Wearside, will be launched and children will film work on the site for a video documentary.
