VOLUNTEERS yesterday took part in a sponsored skate to raise money for the Teesside Asthma Group.
Twelve people, including a man in a wheelchair, attended the outdoor rink in Stockton High Street.
Thirty-year-old Jeff Harrison, who has asthma and uses the wheelchair, skated for an hour in fancy dress.
The charity organises events to raise money to help equip doctors' surgeries in the area.
Equipment includes nebulisers, which give medicine to people who find it difficult to use inhalers, and spirometers, which measure lung capacity.
It also raises funds to train nurses in asthma care and organiser Anne Harrison said the skate raised about £500.
She said: "People sometimes think when they have asthma they can't do sport but if they're taking their medication correctly they can.
"It was really good to see people with asthma skating for around an hour at the rink and raising money for a good cause."
