TICKETS for a concert featuring a teenage musician from Teesside are selling fast.

Laura Barber, 17, leader of the Tees Valley Youth Orchestra, will be centre stage at a recital on Friday.

A recent winner of the Darlington Young Musician of the Year Competition, Laura will play the first movement of Elgar's Violin Concerto and a Spanish dance by de Falla.

She is sharing top billing at the Sir William Turner's Almshouses, Kirkleatham, Redcar, with Turkish pianist Gulsin Onay, who was recently awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Istanbul.

The combined draw of the two musicians means all but seven seats have been sold for the concert, which will be held in the 17th Century chapel.

Gulsin has just returned from a concert tour and recording session in Germany.

She will play a programme of Chopin and a piece by Turkish composer Adnan Saygun.

Organiser Peter Sotheran said: "The classical concerts at Kirkleatham are always well supported and it is always a thrill to say house full."

Tickets , price £10, are available by credit card from (01642) 490401 or may by purchased at the door should any remain unsold.
