GNER has announced the second phase of its station improvements programme to modernise facilities for passengers at key stations along the East Coast Main Line.
The improvements will vary from station to station, but will include improved customer information systems, refurbished toilets, improved security and CCTV, refurbished travel centres, lounges and subways, increased car parking and additional cycle facilities.
The work will start in December with the installation of customer information points at Peterborough, Grantham, Newark North Gate, Doncaster, Wakefield, Darlington, Durham, Newcastle and Berwick. The customer information points are a new initiative by GNER, providing passengers with a focal point for updated train running information, timetable details and other useful passenger information.
Christopher Garnett, GNER Chief Executive said: "We are delighted to announce the second phase of our station improvements programme. GNER has already committed £100 million to increase train services, rebuild and re- engineer our trains and improve passenger information. I'm sure the planned programme of customer service improvements at key stations along our route will be welcomed by our passengers and will further improve their overall travel experience when travelling with GNER."
Derek Langslow, Chairman of RPC Eastern England said: "Stations are part of the fabric of Britain's railway and the gateway to travel by rail. This programme of enhancements will improve daily experience of passengers and encourage more people to use the railway. It is particularly pleasing that passengers will benefit from improved customer information and security at the stations managed by GNER."
