A SCHEME to improve NHS services for patients and their families has been launched in east Durham.
The Patient Advice and Liaison Service (Pals) is a Government initiative.
It provides confidential help, support and advice on national health services to patients, relatives, carers and NHS staff.
The scheme aims to direct patients to the right service quickly and to resolve any concerns people have.
Katrina Bage, Pals manager, said: "People often need help and support when they use health services.
"The service will be easily accessible and patients will normally need make only one call about their issue.''
She added: "Pals can then provide information and help resolve their concerns quickly, linking with other health care agencies, social services and district councils where necessary.
Pals will be holding a series of sessions to help the public find out more about the service.
The meetings will be held at Peterlee Health Centre, in Bede Way, on dates between Wednesday December 10 to January 16.
Anyone who wants more information about the service is asked to contact 0191 554-5723 or 0191 554-5721.
