A STUDENT has scored the highest marks in the country in a GCSE examination.
Andrew Leighton topped the ICT course for the CCEA examination board while studying at Hurworth School Computing and Maths College, near Darlington.
The 16-year-old now attends Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College, in Darlington.
Hurworth headteacher Dean Judson said: "He is an absolutely phenomenal student. The IT department in the school has been really successful over the past few years and we traditionally top the field across Darlington."
Andrew, who lives in Middleton St George, has continued to study computing at A Level. He said: "I was delighted because I didn't even know the award existed until I got the phone call telling me I'd got top marks.
