COUNTRYSIDE wardens in Hartlepool are urging members of the public to support their efforts to look after one of the town's beauty spots.
They are staging a conservation day on Sunday, from 11am to 2pm, at Seaton Dunes and Common Local Nature Reserve.
There will be a chance to tackle a variety of jobs, including fencing repairs, buckthorn clearance and general tidying up.
At first glance, Seaton Common appears to be little more than a field for grazing cattle, but it is home to a vast number of resident and migratory wading birds and mammals.
The common is also of historical significance, the mounds there being relics of a once thriving salt industry.
Across the golf course there is one of the largest dune systems between Lindisfarne and the Humber. These provide a rich and varied habitat for many plants and animals.
Sunday's event is considered suitable for people aged in their teens and upwards. Outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear is essential.
Anyone who is interested in taking part is asked to meet at the North Gare (Blue Lagoon) car park, off Tees Road.
