BUSINESS leaders have been reminded that from October next year it becomes an offence to refuse to provide, or deliberately not provide, a service to a disabled person which is offered to able bodied people.
The message was given at a conference in Durham to mark the culmination of the European Year of Disabled People, which has seen more than 170 projects across the UK share £2.3m in funding for projects celebrating the contribution the disabled make.
David Barker, conference facilitator and business development manager for Reed in Partnership in the North East and Yorkshire, said: "Disabled people have the same rights to access goods and services, as anybody else, and, with a little bit of creativity and planning, businesses will see how inexpensive these changes can be."
