Most North-East hospitals treated more patients in the last financial year compared with 2001-2002.
At South Tees Hospitals NHS Trust, which includes Middlesbrough's James Cook University Hospital, 136,077 patients were treated last year compared with 111,177 in the previous year.
At the Newcastle Hospitals trust, the number of patients treated rose from 166,674 in 2001-2002 to 172,800 last year.
A rise was also recorded at the North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Trust where the number of finished episodes of treatment increased from 78,635 to 82,901.
The merged County Durham and Darlington Acute Hospitals trust saw an increase in patients treated, from 104,515 when the trust was divided into north and south components, to 108,524, while small rises were also recorded at Scarborough and York hospitals.
Primary care trusts also featured among the lists of hospital providers with the Durham Dales trust recording 444 finished episodes of treatment last year and Langbaurgh 1,241 treatments.
