A SPORTS and arts wing built at a cost of £483,000 has been opened at a Redcar primary school.
Newcomen Primary School, in Redcar, has been fitted out with a new arts studio, a sports hall for games, music and drama, a soft play area and community area.
The new wing has been named after retired headteacher Frank Hudson who was in charge of the school from 1987 to 2001.
This week he unveiled a plaque at the building, funded under the Government's Space for Sport and Art initiative.
Headteacher Barbara Linthwaite said: "It is an absolutely fantastic facility for the community. This isn't a school environment, it's a community environment and already we've had a great response.
"We're delighted to be able to invite Frank back.
"This was his dream, his vision, his legacy. He was involved in all the planning and it's only fitting that we should name the building in his honour."
