Spraire Lads

The manager of Spraire Lads U8s, sponsored by Astra Transport, requested an early Christmas present of a 5-0 win against Stockton Town. The lads set about their task and the first half was all Spraire with Keenan Alexander and Craig Edwards putting pressure on the Stockton goal, together with great crosses from Jonathan Dye, made life difficult for the Stockton defence. However, their efforts only resulted in a single goal. At half time the lads were reminded of their pledge and they duly obliged with goals from Liam Mckue (2), Craig Edwards and an excellent solo effort from Keenan Alexander. Ever-reliable full-backs Thomas Hudspith and Aiden Mcdonough ensured that the Stockton forwards did not venture too far over the half way line, resulting in a very quiet game for 'keeper Christopher Soanes.

Spraire Lads U10s suffered their second defeat of the season going down 3-2 at Norton & Stockton Ancients. Spraire started strongly going 1-0 up in the first five minutes through a left foot shot from the edge of the area by James Bennett. Spraire then went to sleep for the final 10 minutes of the first-half, allowing Norton to score three quick-fire goals. In the second-half, Spraire played some excellent football, hitting the Norton woodwork three times and forcing their 'keeper into making some brilliant saves. Some fine play from Matty Plumb and Wilson Kneeshaw set up Bennett to score a deserved second Spraire goal but the final whistle arrived before they could find an equaliser. In a friendly afterwards Spraire won 4-1 with goals from Danny Stead(2), Bennett and Plumb.

Spraire Lads U11s had a great 7-2 win against Eldon Lions. The introduction of new 'keeper Luke Gilbert enabled Chris Charlton play outfield to great effect. By half-time Spraire had built up a four goal lead with braces from Jackson Kneeshaw and Sam Pow. Best wishes go to MoM, Freddy Huscroft for a speedy recovery.

In a hard fought match, Spraire Lads U15A produced another brilliant performance to maintain their winning run with a 3-1 victory over Norton & Stockton Ancients. Spraire completed their scoring when Michael Ward scored from a superb through ball from Mick Lavelle. MoM went to Nathan Liddle, although the whole team were excellent.

Spraire Lads U15B got back on the winning trail with an excellent 6-2 victory at Kader. Spraire went ahead after 5 minutes with a good finish from Thomas Chandler. Spraire maintained a vice-like grip in midfield and built up a 3-0 lead by half-time with an own goal and another from Chandler. Kader made a very determined start to the second-half and as the Spraire midfield began to tire a little, Kader pulled a couple of goals back. However, some timely substitutions steadied the Spraire ship and they went on to score another three goals through Borrowdale and Knox, with Chandler completing his hat-trick. An excellent display by Spraire's 'keeper Jonathan Petch earned him MoM.
