Billingham Bears remain top of the English Under 16 North A League following a 3-0 victory over Whitley Tomahawks at Forum Ice Arena.

Bears opened the scoring at 02.15 on their first powerplay from Robert Dowd. Two minutes later the lead was doubled with another powerplay goal, this coming from Paul Smith.

Nick Rowe was certainly the busier of the netminders as Bears were at times well on top and the young Whitley keeper making fine saves. He was beaten for the third time when Andrew Finn was on target, also on the powerplay in the second minute of the middle period.

Whitley plugged away and several opportunities came their way but were not converted as James Flavell earned himself a shut-out. He faced 17 shots.

Billingham Falcons could not take the honours in the Tees-Tune derby at U14 North A League level against Whitley Mohawks at Forum, Ice Arena . Falcons without a league point went behind on the powerplay at 03.24 and a minute later Tinsley doubled the lead. Within ten minutes it was 4-0 as Andrew Wood and Callum Watson also scored.

Jayce Nunn and Chris Snaith shared netminding duties for Falcons and Nunn came on for Snaith at 21.30 this with the score 5-0. Wood and Watson were on target in the second period as the lead was increased to 6-0.

Falcons made a few chances but could not capitalise and both James Burlinson and Daniel Smith had a shut out in the Mohawks goal facing only 12 shots.

In the final six minutes of the match Whitley found the target four times as Tinsley completed his hat trick at 39.05. Josh Buck, Tinsley and Pal Husband rounded off the scoring for a 10-0 win.

The next day back on home ice Mohawks entertained Nottingham Tigers and were beaten 12-1. Tigers went ahead in only 15 seconds and scored again before Jamie Buck was Whitley's lone scorer at 06.31.

Nottingham currently leading the table scored ten unanswered for a 12-1 victory.

Billingham Wildcats picked up their first league win in Women's Division One North this season with a 9-0 victory over Sheffield Shadows North at Forum Ice Arena. They were sent on their way with a goal after only 20 seconds from Vanessa Hill. Sarah Clare scoring for a second four minutes later.

Four goals in seven minutes during the middle period from Stephanie Box, Hill (2), and Emma Gourlay increased the lead to 6-0. The latter two came with Wildcats shorthanded.

Sheffield could not score due to the netminding of Jenny Metcalfe in Wildcats goals facing 21 shots for her shut out. In t he final period Clare, Hannah Antrobus and Hill completed the scoring.

Wildcats travel to meet Premier League opposition in Guildford Lightning in second round of Women's Knockout Cup. No date has yet been arranged.

Whitley Bay Squaws brushed aside Nottingham Vipers for a 10-1 victory in women's Division One North Becky Kasner opened the scoring in the first minute and Sara Christie scoring a second just before the end of the first period. Sarah Barnett, Kasner, Christie and Charlotte Willey were on target in the second period as Squaws extended their advantage to 6-1.

Kasner completed her hat trick 24 seconds into the final period, Katie Watson and Kasnet had made the score 9-0 before Vipers had scored their consolation reply.

the goal coming short-handed to break Karen Lockey's shut out. Kasner completed the scoring on the powerplay. Squaws' victory taking revenge from the 5-4 loss in Nottingham.

Sunderland Cherokees lost 5-0 to Kingston Rivermen in English Under 12 North a League at Hull Ice Arena. Cherokees did not get off to the best of starts and trailed 0-3 at 10-22 and 0-5 at 21.13. Much improved from later in the game but by which time the result did not matter and Cherokees tried in vain to get on the schoresheet, but a goal would not come.

Sunderland Tomahawks without a point and bottom of English Under 19 North A League visited league leaders Kingston Predators and lost 8-1, Kris Hayes scoring Tomahawks consolation goal.

Whitley Bay Mischiefs faced Sheffield Samaurai in an Under 10 North Challenge at Ice Sheffield. Due to Whitley not having sufficient players for the league match it was a challenge match. Two goals in the final minute of the first period and another at 24.24 put Sheffield 3-0 ahead.

Jonny Zajac pulled a goal back a minute later and Kate Ord at 29.,19 brought Whitley to within one. Three goals in as many minutes at the start of the final period gave Sheffield a 6-2 victory.

English National Hockey League North

No games for either Billingham Bombers and Sunderland Chiefs but Whitley Warriors were back in action against Nottingham Lions at the Olympic Arena.

Nottingham had taken the lead before And rew Robinson pegged the scores. Stephen Winn back in the side and promoted to take first line alongside Paul Graham and Andrew Tindale scored twice in the second period to put Warriors 3-1 ahead.

Five minutes into the final period Lions who are among the leading clubs this season cut the deficit. Nerminder Stephen Hoult was man of the match and he was outstanding. Nottingham pulled their netminder looking for an equaliser with three minute remaining.

There was only 13 seconds left when Raymond Haslam put the result beyond doubt into an unguarded net, for a 4-2 victory.

Warriors next match is at Hillheads on December 21 when Nottingham are the visitors. The home side hope to have Dale Howey, D J Good and Lee Baxter back in the line-up.

Billingham entertain Grimsby Buffaloes on Sunday at forum Ice Arena. Bombers lost 6-2 at Grimsby last month and will be out for revenge.
