AN eyesore corner of Teesside is to be transformed thanks to a £195,000 improvement grant.
The wilderness that is Farndale Field, Middlesbrough, will soon be unrecognisable when it is turned into landscaped open ground complete with a play area, seating, walkways, garden and an all weather pitch.
"This is a rare opportunity to turn a derelict eyesore into a beautiful green space for local people to use and enjoy,'' said Bob Macmillan, secretary of the Longlands Area Residents Association (Lara).
Money for the makeover was secured by the association with the help of Middlesbrough Council.
Mr Macmillan added: "The new-look space will be a real asset for the local community and they will be closely involved in making the improvements happen.
"Our success shows what can be achieved when local residents take a real interest in their area, and work closely with their local council to make real improvements."
Pupils from local primary schools Marton Grove and St Joseph's cut the first turf on site, yesterday.
