PUPILS at a Darlington school are having a green Christmas this year with the help of an environmentally-friendly tree.
Dodmire Infant School has been given a real Christmas tree, lights and decorations by npower, as part of the energy firm's Green Christmas Tree Scheme.
The tree came with a certificate verifying that it had been grown in a responsibly managed forest and instructions on how to dispose of it in the New Year so it can benefit future trees and wildlife.
Headteacher Maureen Dixon said: "The Green Christmas Tree scheme is an excellent idea, particularly for small children and we are delighted to be championing it by looking after one of npower's trees. Our children and staff really enjoyed decorating the tree and it's provided a great opportunity to learn more about recycling and how we can do our bit to help the environment."
