A Yorkshire Premiership battle is on the cards in the final of the Kall Kwik Harrogate and District Squash Championships.
Top seed Ian Cawthorne (Chapel Allerton) and second favourite Simon Myring (Harrogate Squash) are both on course for the showdown. Cawthorne plays for Chapel Allerton in the Premiership and is a former Yorkshire county player while Myring has proved a gritty performer for Harrogate's title challenge in the elite Yorkshire League.
Cawthorne reached the last eight by defeating John Riley (Nomads) 9-7 9-7 6-9 9-7 while Myring cleared Michael Lawton (Chapel Allerton) 9-6 9-7 9-7.
Hopes that a father could face his son in their first competitive clash were dashed when dad Tony Nowakowski (Harrogate) went down 3-2 to Mike Dickens (Chapel Allerton).
Had Nowakowski won he would have played his teenage son Adam in the next round.
A league spokesman said: "We arranged the draw so the pair would meet each other for the first time in a competition in the quarter-finals. But unfortunately dad was knocked out."
Other second round results:
Nick King (Chapel Allerton) beat Steve Smith (Harlow) 9-5 9-7 10-8; Mike Dickens (Chapel Allerton) beat Tony Nowakowski (Harrogate Squash) 9-6 9-6 6-9 8-10 9-5; Adam Nowakowski (Harrogate Squash) beat Nicola Pratt (Harrogate) 6-9 9-7 9-4 3-9 9-4; Bob Peacock (Harrogate) beat Andy Hall (Nomads) 9-4 10-9 6-9 9-7; Stuart McDonald beat Robin Mannell (Moortown) walk-over; Paul Hotchkiss (Harrogate) beat Craig Chapel (Chapel Allerton) walk-over.

Kall Kwik Harrogate Junior League
Now in its fourth season the Kall Kwik Harrogate Junior Squash League goes from strength to strength.
It started with just two sections for under 13s and under-17s but has now expanded to include under-11s and under-15s.
North Leeds side Chapel Allerton currently lead the tables in all four divisions but are facing a challenge from Harrogate Squash Club in the under-11s.
There Chapel Allerton lead on 31 points but Harrogate are second and have a match in hand with a potential eight points at stake.
The Harrogate side kept up the pressure on the leaders by defeating York RI 3-0. Brothers Peter and Oliver Hotchkiss, whose father Paul also plays for Harrogate Squash Club, were among the winners. Also contributing a winning performance to the scoreline was Ross McDonald.
The same team also defeated Bedale 3-0
