MORE than 20,000 workers have improved their skills thanks to a Government training scheme.
The scheme, which offers a package of support to help unskilled employees, will run in Tyne and Wear, Birmingham and Solihull, Derbyshire, Essex, Greater Manchester, and Wiltshire until August next year.
Free or subsidised training is offered and employers are compensated for releasing their staff.
The Government said the scheme, which cost £30m in its first year, had so far been a success and highlighted the flexibility of training being offered - one course being run for a group of bakers started at 4am.
