Coxhoe Boys Club: FRIDAY night's floodlit match at Spennymoor United's Brewery Field went according to plan with Coxhoe Boys Under 15s winning their top of the table clash with Whitburn Boys 6-1.
In the first half Coxhoe, who try to arrange a match at the UniBond League venue every year, failed to reproduce their emphatic early season form but they still managed to go in two goals to the good at half-time.
Liam Short and Michael Owens grabbed the two goals, before Whitburn pulled one back. As the scoreline suggests the half was a close one with goalkeeper Tom Orton kept busy.
But after the restart Coxhoe's class shone through and Short added a second before John Dodd - the club's new signing from Brandon - Paul Hanett and Shane Gavin completed the scoring. Nathan Ward, Daniel Jones and Ben Raine all enjoyed good matches for Coxhoe - who have now won nine out of nine games.
Manager Bobby Orton said: "It was a fantastic night with a big crowd and we would just like to say thank you to Spennymoor for the night. The owner of the club Benny Mottram, manager Tony Lee and secretary Brian Bouchan were brilliant and it's thanks to them that we had such a good night."
Coxhoe entertain Seaham Red Star on Sunday at Coxhoe Leisure Centre, kick-off 1pm.

The home side didn't let their heads drop and started to battle their way back into the game and on the stroke of half time got their reward scoring from a corner, the ball ending into the back of the net after a goal mouth scramble.

Henderson was very unlucky not to add to the score, the home keeper making a great save and then soon after he was brought down inside the box and to every body's amazement the Ref turned down the penalty appeal! Redcar wouldn't be denied and came storming back to score again, the home striker forcing the ball over the line from two yards to finish the scoring in an untidy scrappy match that was more about hard work than pure football.
