HIGHWAY Construction Services is leading a campaign to encourage investment in people after being hailed as a model example by the industry's largest training body.
The Stockton business recently received Investors in People (IiP) accreditation, and managing director Brian Robinson was so impressed with the positive impact it had on business performance, that he offered his assistance to the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) to encourage other companies to follow his lead.
The company, a civil engineering, highway construction and maintenance contractor, which employs 12 staff, began working towards IiP through the Building a Better Business programme.
Within a year it had increased productivity and reduced defects and wastage.
Mr Robinson said: "The Building a Better Business programme has not only had a positive impact on the firm's bottom line, it has enhanced our company image and made our employees understand our business direction and feel part of the team.
"We got through the training within eight months and, contrary to popular belief, there is not much paperwork, just a lot of relevant help available to improve your company's performance."
Grants of up to £2,000 are being offered to businesses who commit to achieving IiP, and £5,000 will be awarded to those who are successful.
