HENRIK Larsson's agent yesterday denied reports linking the Swedish striker with a move to Newcastle United in January.

Larsson is believed to be ready to consider his Parkhead future if Celtic fail to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages, with reports from Scotland saying the Magpies are ready with a £3m bid.

But Rob Jansen says Larsson is going nowhere at present, despite the fact his contract expires next summer, when he will listen to any Premiership offers.

Jansen said: "This suggestion is completely ridiculous. Henrik will finish his career in Scotland with Celtic at the end of this season.

"He will not leave Celtic in January and will stay at the club until the end of the season. Of course he will consider offers from the Premiership if they come in then."

United are still awaiting the results of a scan on Lee Bowyer's groin injury, which could keep the midfielder out for a month.

The former West Ham and Leeds man has carried the injury since before the game at Wolves, and was unable to participate in full training last week.

Striker Craig Bellamy is now expected to return to first team action by mid-February.

The Welshman underwent surgery in America on his knee last month, but should be back in time for the FA Cup fifth round - if the Magpies are still in the competition - and also Newcastle's third-round first-leg UEFA Cup match on February 26.

* Liverpool's Steven Gerrard will not be punished for his two-footed tackle on Newcastle midfielder Nolberto Solano during Saturday's 1-1 draw. Referee Graham Poll has told the FA he saw the incident during the game and they view the issue as closed as they cannot initiate disciplinary proceedings on incidents which have been seen by the officials.

* Newcastle reserves slipped to a 2-0 defeat when they met Wolves last night with Scottish international Kenny Miller getting both of the Midlands side's goals.

Andy Bartlett had an early taste of the action when he had to palm away a shot from Kevin Cooper, who had run unmarked into the Newcastle box.

At the other end Hugo Viana then set up a chance for Bradley Orr, whose shot was blocked at close range by Keith Lowe before Isaac Okoronkwo cleared Lewis Guy's angled shot off the line after the youngster had been set up by Lomana LuaLua.

Darren Ambrose went close with a chip that drifted a fraction wide of the far post shortly before he was booked for a foul on Joey Gudjonsson.

Wolves went ahead in the 30th minute when a tremendous shot from Keith Andrews flew down off the bar, bouncing kindly for Miller to head past the stranded Bartlett.

Newcastle were inches away from an equaliser in the 37th minute when a LuaLua shot took a massive deflection off Andrews and trickled inches wide of the post with home keeper Andy Marshall a spectator.

Just before the break Andy Griffin, about to start a three-match ban following his indiscretion against Aston Villa, found himself in more trouble when he was yellow carded for a late tackle on Silas.

The second half was just six minutes old when Wolves stretched their advantage. Shaun Newton held off Phil Cave's challenge before sending in a cross that Bartlett palmed away. Unfortunately for the keeper, it fell at Miller's feet and he had little trouble in converting.

On the hour mark Marshall had to dive smartly to save a shot from Orr, then LuaLua fired a free kick into the side netting.

Both sides struck the bar in the closing minutes - Silas for Wolves and Ambrose for the Magpies, but the home team held on to register their first win of the campaign.
