POLICE are having success with an operation to target alleged criminals in the run-up to Christmas.
Operation Bullseye started in Newton Aycliffe on Saturday, and since then police have arrested six people on suspicion of theft-related offences.
Sergeant Ed Turner said: "Operation Bullseye is about targeting thieves and shoplifters in the run-up to Christmas. We have been using high visibility patrols in Newton Aycliffe town centre.
"We arrested three people on Saturday, two on Sunday and another one yesterday. We run the operation every year, but we are particularly pleased with the success so far. We want to send out the message that we don't want these people in our town."
Two of the people arrested on Saturday have appeared in court charged with theft. The cases were adjourned and they will reappear later this month
