CUBS and Beavers have raised more than £100 to help families of sick children.
The young members of the 2nd Bishop Auckland Scout Troop collected £120 to donate to Bishop Auckland General Hospital's children's ward.
The money will be used to purchase computer printers so staff can print leaflets and information about medical conditions to keep patients' families informed.
The cash crusade was launched after Dr Heather Smith, consultant paediatrician in the children's ward, visited the group of six to ten-year-olds to talk about healthy diets.
Each Cub and Beaver was given a pack of healthy foods, including a bottle of mineral water. Then each of them had to fill the empty water bottle with loose change for the hospital.
Cub Scout leader Robert Yorke said: "Parents said that for weeks the members were asking them to have more healthy food at home, which is good to know.
"It was nice to repay that with this donation, which will ultimately help other young people and their families."
Dr Smith said: "Obesity is an increasingly important problem and it is important we encourage youngsters to make healthy lifestyle decisions.
"The hospital is very pleased with the donation. It will be a great boost for the ward to have printers so we can make the best use of the information available on computers."
