A CHARITY has estimated that £70,000 worth of toys have been donated to make sure that 4,000 underprivileged children have presents this Christmas.
Staff at Travelcare, in Redcar, handed over their contribution of two large suitcases full of gifts from TFM and Magic radio listeners.
They will go towards the stations' Make a Child Smile This Christmas appeal, now in its seventh year.
People have shown great generosity and presents included a PlayStation 2 and a television.
One man even donated his unopened Christmas bonus.
Head of the charity Tracey Butler said: "We are overwhelmed with the kind of toys people have been bringing in. It has been great.
"This has really shown how everyone is getting in the Christmas spirit.
"We expect to be even busier collecting all the toys and find homes for them."
Youngsters at children's homes, hostels and refuges, as well as those identified by social services across Teesside, County Durham and North Yorkshire, will benefit from the gifts.
