ROTARIANS have teamed up with an ambulance service to form a rapid-response team.

Stokesley Rotary Club and the Tees, East and North Yorkshire Ambulance Service (Tenyas) are promoting the scheme, which will consist of trained volunteers who will be equipped and called out by Tenyas.

The volunteers will respond to medical emergencies in the Stokesley and Hutton Rudby areas, providing first aid until the arrival of an ambulance and paramedics.

The nearest ambulance station is at Coulby Newham. In ideal circumstances, crews can reach Stokesley in seven minutes and Hutton Rudby in 11 minutes, but bad weather and traffic conditions can increase response times to 12 and 17 minutes.

A group of volunteers available and willing to attend emergencies is required at each location.

Training will be provided by Tenyas instructors, with skills covering first aid, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and the use of defibrillators. Equipment will be provided

A volunteer co-ordinator is also required to arrange and manage an availability rota.
