A police officer has been suspended after she was arrested on suspicion of a drugs-related crime.

PC Anna Jakubowiak, of Darlington police, is believed to be the subject of an investigation by the North Yorkshire force following her arrest.

Durham Constabulary issued a brief statement last night confirming that a female officer had been suspended from duty until the inquiry was complete.

The Northern Echo understands that 27-year-old PC Jakubowiak was arrested in a York nightclub last week.

It is believed she was released on bail, pending further inquiries.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman confirmed: "A 27-year-old woman was arrested in connection with an alleged drugs offence. She is a serving police officer with another force."

Durham Police refused to make any further comment last night.

A spokeswoman would only say: "North Yorkshire have got an investigation on-going so we won't be saying anything further."

PC Jakubowiak, part of Darlington's neighbourhood beat unit, was in the headlines earlier this year as the officer investigating the theft of a £1,800 custom-made clarinet.

The clarinet was stolen from the Dolphin Centre, in Darlington, in April.

But the case was quickly solved after the instrument was left on the doorstep of North Road police station only days later.
