INTERNATIONAL engineering services firm Amec has been awarded a contract to extend a gas processing plant in Cheshire.
The Darlington division of Amec is to carry out the work at the Energy Merchants Gas Storage (EGMS) operation.
Steve Lee, managing director of Amec's downstream business, said: "The award illustrates the value of Amec's experience in gas storage and underpins our aim to secure higher quality earnings through long-term relationships with clients.
"It consolidates our leading position in this sector in the UK and we look forward to continuing our long and mutually beneficial relationship with EMGS."
The processing and compression plant of the storage facility was designed and built by Amec in 2000.
Under the new contract, Amec will install a 10MW compressor, associated process plant, pipelines and control systems to boost gas compression.
The compressor will be electrically driven and will have zero emissions.
The contact win follows the recent completion by Amec of another order to carry out engineering and design work for the facility.
