A CHARITY is appealing for donations to help to make this Christmas as special as possible for families needing refuge.
For 30 years Wear Valley Women's Aid has helped families to break away from domestic unhappiness and build new lives. All year round its refuge acts a temporary home for six women and their children.
Social worker Fiona Nicol said: "Over Christmas and New Year there is a greater sense of isolation for women and children who may be away from the former family home. We try to make Christmas as good as possible, we make the effort to watch children in school plays, have nice food, gifts and parties."
Donations of gifts, for women aged 20 to 60 and children of all ages, food, drink and other items can be taken to the refuge, at 9 Etherley Lane, Bishop Auckland, or call Alison on (01388) 600094.
