THE annual Christmas Spectacular in Ripon Cathedral takes place on Saturday.

For the fifth successive year, the celebration of Christmas music and song will be directed by Xenophon Kelsey, who has brought together young people from Boroughbridge High School, Ripon Grammar School and Ripon College.

Mayor of Ripon, Councillor Bernard Bateman, who is also chairman of Ripon Festivals, said: "This has proved to be a marvellous event to get Christmas Week under way and the committee would like to thank the many sponsors, in particular Mr and Mrs Paul Sykes, who have made the staging of this major Ripon Christmas event possible."
