FAMILIES have been helping to protect local wildlife by joining a conservation event.
Durham Wildlife Trust held a Christmas tree sale at Low Barns Nature Reserve, Witton-le-Wear, near Bishop Auckland.
Proceeds from the sale of trees and other goods will go towards the trust's woodland conservation work.
Families joined experts from the Wildlife Nestbox Group, including Robin Laycock (pictured) to build their own bird and bee boxes.
They learned about traditional woodcrafts in Sunderland wood turners' demonstrations.
