SANTA toured the streets of a market town in the back of an adapted rag and bone cart.
The Rotary Club of Chester-le-Street created a Christmas sleigh from hardboard and added it to the cart, which was pulled by a 3ft high pony.
The tour finished at St Cuthbert's Walk Shopping Arcade, where Santa took his place in his grotto.
He will make further visits to the grotto tomorrow, Friday, Saturday and Monday, between 11am and 3pm.
There will be the chance to enjoy another sleigh tour from about 10.15am to 10.45am on Saturday.
The event is raising money for the North-East Leukaemia Society.
Last year, Chester-le-Street Rotary Club raised £1,600 for local diabetic clinics.
