FEARS are growing for the safety of a missing teenager who has struck up friendships with asylum seekers.
Police and social services officials said they were seriously concerned for Emma Phillips, 14, who went missing from her foster home in Gateshead on November 25. The last known sighting of her was on December 5.
Northumbria Police have appealed to voluntary workers in the Sunderland area after it emerged the youngster had formed relationships with asylum seekers there.
Officers have searched several addresses in an attempt to trace the youngster, who is described as "vulnerable".
She is blonde, 5ft 7in and has blue eyes. When last seen she was wearing blue jeans, a blue fleece and silver earrings bearing the word "sexy".
Chief Inspector Ralph Logan, of Gates-head police, said officers have searched dozens of addresses, but without success.
He appealed to link workers, shopkeepers and residents in the Roker Avenue and Harbour View areas of Sunderland to be alert for any sign of Emma.
"She is a vulnerable 14-year-old, but needs to know she is not in trouble," he said. "As we approach Christmas, social services, her friends and family need to hear from her to let us know she is all right.
"We also have a mobile phone for her when she returns, so if she goes missing again, at least she can let us know she is okay."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Gateshead police on 0191-454 7555, extension 64326.
