The unavailability of referees again cut short the fixture list last weekend but the games that did go ahead in division one saw AFC Brinkburn gain a fine win over Killinghall Arms. Although James Raper found the back of the net for the Killy, it was a double strike from Steve Appleby which saw the home side take all three points with a 2-1 victory.
Nestfield took the field against the Shuttle and Loom and missed the chance to take top spot in the division as the Shuttle went into a two-goal lead.
With a fine display of passing football, the first goal came when Adi Weston hit an excellent free kick from 30 yards which rebounded off the bar and it was Kevin Baines who reacted the quickest and a fine header saw the visitors keeper have no chance as the ball hit the top corner of the net.
The home side broke again, but with Garry Mitchell in on goal he was brought down in the penalty area by Shuttle keeper John Wray. Mitchell picked himself up and with a cool finish converted the spot kick to make the score 2-0.
Shuttle battled back well and pulled a goal back with fine effort from Paul Sudaman, the visitors then levelled the scores when Chris Airey hit a fierce volley from just outside the box to make the score at the break 2-2.
In the second half both teams came out strongly, but it was the Shuttle who played the better football and it was their fighting spirit along with their excellent united team, they controlled the game and a double strike from Steven Clement and one from Stuart Curry they recorded an excellent 5-2 victory against one of the league's strongest sides.
Spraire RA visited Hurworth Albion and the first half saw very little in the way of clear cut chances for either of these well matched teams and they went into the break goalless.
In the second half Hurworth picked up their game but could not find the net mainly due to a first class performance from Michael Thravis in the visitors goal. Spraire eventually broke the deadlock after 65 minutes with Martin Brown converting a good ball into the box, shortly afterwards Brown scored his second, turning neatly in the penalty area to fire home with an excellent finish.
Brown completed his hat-trick when Spraire were awarded a late penalty which he converted to make the final score 3-0 to the visitors.
The division now sees the top five teams on 15 points and the bottom four on six points each.
