Worthington CIU Winter League: New Durham went down to their first defeat of the season when the visiting Fishburn B won in the decider.
This only leaves the top two teams in the First Division, Wheatley Hill A and Spennymoor A with unblemished records. Fishburn B made a great start at New Durham when Alan Wilson and Jamie Hodgson put them ahead. However the home side responded with wins from Neil Phillips with a 33 break and Gordon Bowes. In the decider Fishburn's George Whitelock beat Thomas Cairns on the black.
Wheatley Hill A were also taken to a black ball decider when they visited Wingate and found themselves two down when John Bourne and Geoff Howe won for the home side. Dave Walker and Alan Hall squared the match and then Ronnie Peacock took the Hill to victory when he beat Jimmy Mason on the black.
Spennymoor A are four points behind Wheatley Hill A at the top of the First Division after they only dropped one point at Fishburn A, who had Brian Quest as their only winner. The Moors points came from Paul Biddle with a 38 break, Paul Atkinson with a 44 break, Eddie Rhodes and Karl Welsh.
Cockton Hill recovered from a bad start in their home match against Sherburn Village for the visitors shot into a lead with wins from Peter McGowan and Scott Mallaburn. However the Hill levelled with wins from Harold Lomax and Andrew Aisbitt, who put in a 54 break. In the decider, Vickers Bell took Cockton Hill to victory when he beat John Bower on the black.
Steven Armstrong put in the best break to date in the Second Division when he knocked in 79 for Crowtrees A to help them beat the visiting Sacriston by the odd point. Sean Johnston and Sonny Hann with a 33 break won points for the home side with Mark Appleby and Ronnie Bradley replying for Sacriston.
Willington held on to a share of the top spot in the Second Division when they won in the decider at Stanley Central. Harry Grimes put the home side ahead but Jeremy Martin levelled. Norman Rimmington restored the home lead only to see Gordon Parkin equalise. In the decider the Willington captain, Tom Parkin beat Frank Foster.
After leading the Second Division throughout the early fixtures, Coundon went down to their second consecutive defeat when they lost at home to Ferryhill A in the decider. Neil Spender put the visitors ahead but then Stuart Neill and Willy Shoulder won for Coundon. Adrian Jones put in breaks of 32 and 39 to level and Ferryhill A went to victory when Glyn Toas beat Graham Goulbourn in the decider. This leaves Coundon two points adrift of the joint leaders and only one ahead of Newhouse and Meadowfield.
Shotton Palms broke a losing sequence of five defeats in a row when they edged through in the decider against the visiting Bearpark A. Jimmy Evans junior and Dave Swindle put the home side ahead but David Jackson and John Jackson levelled. In the decider Paul Hickman took Shotton to victory when he beat Alan Smith.
Newton Aycliffe continued their recent move up the First Division when they won in the decider at Brandon. Brian Graham put the home side ahead but John Briddick equalised. Graeme Jackson restored the home lead but Peter Brown levelled. In the decider the visiting Ronnie Hall beat Colin Goodrick.
Newhouse moved up in the Second Division after they only dropped one point on their visit to Langley Park, who had Stephen Coates as their only winner. The visitors' points came from Jimmy Hassen, Harry Dinsdale, Ian Dinsdale and Paul Wright.
Meadowfield stayed level with Newhouse despite losing the first two points at Spennymoor B, who had wins from Micky Anderson with a 30 break and Wayne Parry. However Stephen Hughes and Martin Halliday levelled the match and then Craig Hughes beat Alan Clarke in the decider.
The Hunwick derby decided the second and third places in the Third Division. Hunwick A won by the odd point to move one point clear into second spot when they had wins from Des Mason, Peter Mernor and Ian Richardson, whilst John Bate and Arnold Fleming replied.
Crowtrees B made a good win in the decider at Tow Law A. John Hall and Paul Moralee put the visitors ahead but Doug Watson and Stephen Laing levelled. In the decider Crowtrees went to victory when Terry Gibson beat Tommy Williams in the decider. The Tow Law side were missing regular, Heppell Hodgson, who is recovering from an operation in Darlington hospital. The officials and all the players in the league send their best wishes for a speedy return to full health and to the snooker table.
Wheatley Hill B left the foot of the Second Division after they won their third consecutive match at home to Belmont, whose only point came from Billy McGrath. The Hill's points came from Steve Cave, Philip Taylor, Kevin Connor and Tony Ellison.
Ferryhill B had wins from Chris Buston, Billy Roddam and Mark Wilson with a 40 break to beat the visiting Leeholme A by the odd point. Barry Shaw and Karl Thompson won for the visitors.
Durham City's promotion hopes took a bang when they went down by the odd point at Bearpark B, who had wins from Steven Gott, Graham Horrocks amd Tommy Wilson, whilst Michael Pratt and Barry Stoddart replied.

Redcar Lakes B continued their good run with a 4-2 away win against Guisborough TA. Brian Norris paved the way for the Lakes when he won both of his games against Alan Bringloe with scores of 68-31 and 80-9. Neil Grey then made it 4-0 when beating Gavin Hubbard 43-35 and 72-38. Gary Nicholson then won the final two games for the TA when beating Richards 71-21 and 62-13. The Redcar Lakes A team whitewashed their opponents, Carlin How A 6-0 during which Gary Beckett (Redcar Lakes) compiled breaks of 54 and 55. With this result Redcar Lakes A now have a tally of 38 points making them joint second in the table alongside Marske Workies A. Marske Workies A continued their excellent run of results with a 4-2 home win against former leaders Saltburn Cons. A, during this match Paul Baggot (Saltburn Cons.) compiled an excellent 76 break, Grinkle Park also recorded a 4-2 home win against Ennis Square A. Redcar Workies A kept the pressure on the leaders with a 5-1 away win against Carlin How B and with this result they now have 37 points, only one off second place. Redcar Cons. A got their season back on track with a 5-1 home win against Guisborough Quoit. Redcar Unionist's A went top of Division One with a total of 41 points after they beat Lune Street 4-2.
Division Two
The Redcar Workies B team continued their push for promotion with an excellent 4-2 home win against Val's Priory A. Anthony Moore won his first frame against Barry Walker 49-25 but lost the second 35-85. Kevin Watson suffered a similar fate against John Bracchi when they won a frame each with scores of 20-38 and 66-58. Anthony Kyme then sealed the victory for the Workies when beating Peter Dodgson in both of his games by 68-41 and 57-33. South Bank Albion whitewashed their opponents, The Lodge A, 6-0. Phil Hartley (South Bank Albion) compiled the highest recorded break so far this season with an outstanding 80 break. His team mate, Phil Carr, compiled breaks of 44 and 72 while John Hartley hit a 41. Ennis Square B recorded an excellent 5-1 home win against Redcar Cons. B, Redcar Unionist's B chalked up an excellent 5-1 away win against the Lodge's B team as did Redcar Lakes D against Val's Priory B.

Crook League
There were two noteworthy breaks in last week's games. In the First Division Ray Holliday of Crook Coach and Horses A put in a run of 68, whilst in the Second Division David Craggs of Crook Coach and Horses B made a break of 71.
First Division leaders, Crook Travellers Rest B went down at home to Crook Belle Vue, who moved into third place just a point behind the Travellers and Crook Olde Horse Shoe A, who share the top place. The Travellers Rest B had singles wins from Neil Campbell and Jim Ainsley with the same players joining to take the doubles point. The visitors had singles wins from John Warriner, Arthur Hope, Brian Wright and Ian Hodkinson. This leaves the Club three points ahead of Crook Royal Sun.
Crook Coach and Horses B lead the Second Division by 14 points from the Olde Horse Shoe B and Crook White Swan B, who are five points ahead of Crook Jelly's Bar A.
