Thornaby Mand. FC 1 Woodmans Ar. 4: Woodmans Arms followed up their win over Ennis Square last weekend with another fine performance.
Both sides created good openings in the first half but the only goal came when Matthew Bailley scored from close range. Early in the second half, Mark Jones added a second when, with his back to goal, he turned and fired home from just inside the area. Mandale came back strongly and reduced the arrears when David Barker scored from the penalty spot after the player himself had been fouled in the area. The home side continued to press for the equaliser but it was the Woodman's who extended their lead when Paul Jones scored. Late in the game, Paul Ritchie made sure of the points firing through a crowd of players for the Woodman's fourth.
South Bank U 3 Ennis Square SC 4
Ennis moved to the top of the table once again with a narrow win over South Bank United. For once, South Bank's recent habit of scoring four goals in a game deserted them but they produced yet another fight back that almost produced a point. Ennis beat the South Bank offside trap for their opening goal on ten minutes but United hit back almost immediately when Anthony Gregory levelled the scores two minutes later. Midway through the half however, Ennis struck twice within a minute to take control of the game and although Anthony Reed pulled a goal back, Ennis restored their two goal lead. Twenty minutes from time however, Peter Renton produced the goal of the game to set up an exciting finale which saw United going desperately close.
Kings Head FC 7 British Steel Sp. 1
A snapshot form Paul Round from six yards out gave the King's Head an early lead in their game against British Steel Sports and although the visitors leveled minutes later through Kenny Walker, a first half hat trick from Round had them chasing the game. Fifteen minutes into the second half, Matthew Swales hit a swerving volley from twenty yards out that gave the keeper no chance and with twenty minutes remaining, Johnny May hit a left foot drive that flew into the back of the net. Brian Crawley beat two men before scoring number six and Round completed a fine afternoon's work heading home his fourth goal.
PJS FC 1 St Mary's College OB 1
PJS made the most of a following wind in the first half subjecting St. Mary's to a bombardment of long, high balls. The College defence however, stood firm restricting PJS to long shots. Twenty minutes from half time, PJS finally broke the deadlock when St. Marys failed to clear a corner and a curling shot from Paul Cockburn found the back of the net with the aid of a deflection. Ten minutes from time, the College took a share of the points when Wally Kaid sent the keeper the wrong way from the penalty spot.
Stokesley SC 1 Thornaby Village 0
A youthful Stokesley side picked up three valuable points with a Kevin Wilson goal being enough to separate the sides.
Wilson ran on to a through ball an the half hour mark before slotting the ball home. With striker turned midfielder Michael Bulmer running the center of the park, Stokesley might well have added to their tally but the Village players put in a determined performance to restrict the home side to just the single goal.
South Park Rang. 8 NS Bulls Head 3
Bottom club Bull's Head gave South Park Rangers a fright scoring after just six seconds through Simon Nelson and adding a second on 20 minutes when Nelson caught the Rangers defence napping. Graham Watson started South Park's fight back and by the interval they had taken the lead with a second from Watson together with a strike from brother Chris.
Watson (C) looped the ball over the keeper early in the second half and when Watson (G) completed his hat trick, the Bull's challenge had been truly dampened.
Alan French continued the goalscoring for Rangers before David Butters hit the goal of the game for the Bulls. Two more from Watson (G), taking his tally for the game to five rounded off a fine performance for Rangers.
Linx Hemlington 2 Coulby Newham 1
A wind dominated game saw Coulby take a first half half lead through Richard May but then being pegged back in the second period when Linx had the benefit of the wind. With 20 minutes left, Mark Smith made the Linx pressure pay when he scored the equalizer and just five minutes remained when Chris Hubbard hit a 30 yard shot that gave the Coulby keeper no chance. At the other end, Linx goalie Dean Simpson needed to be on his toes producing a fine save in the last minute to deny Coulby.
Saturday's results: Kings Head FC 7 British Steel Sports 1, Linx Hemlington 2 Coulby Newham FC 1, North Skelton Village FC v Middlesbrough Post Office - postponed, PJS FC 1 St Mary's College OB 1, South Bank Utd. 3 Ennis Square SC 4, South Park Rangers FC 8 NS Bulls Head FC 3, Stokesley SC 1 Thornaby Village 0, Thornaby Mandale FC 1 Woodmans Arms 4.
