CHILDREN from a Darlington school have contributed hampers to a Christmas appeal.
Pupils at Branksome Comprehensive School, put together hampers for the town's Giving Tree Appeal.
The appeal asked Christmas shoppers to buy an extra gift for needy families.
Yesterday, Darlington Mayor, Councillor Ron Lewis visited Branksome school to judge the best-decorated hamper.
He chose one that had been decorated as Father Christmas's fireplace and created by a group of 14-year-olds.
Teacher Pam Scott said: "The children have shown how generous they are, especially at this time of year.
"This kindness is typical of the children at Branksome and they have done us proud."
The Giving Tree Appeal is organised by the borough council's social services department.
Anyone wanting to raise money for the appeal is asked to call Janet Robinson on (01325) 346841.
