A MUSEUM is waiving its admission fees to an exhibition by one of Britain's most celebrated artists, for two days over the festive break.
Beryl Cook's images of large ladies are recognised around the world, and visitors to Durham Light Infantry Museum and Durham Art Gallery, at Aykley Heads, in the city, will be able to see them free on Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
Steve Shannon, from the museum, said: "We don't enjoy national funding so we're not in a position to throw open the doors free every day, but this is a great Christmas present to local people and visitors alike."
This is the third year that the DLI, run by Durham County Council, has offered free admission and visitor numbers have climbed from just over 70 in 2000, to 1,000 last Christmas.
