A RELIGIOUS centre has opened its doors to a fanfare provided by a steel band.
Based in North Ormesby Market Place, Middlesbrough, the Trinity Centre was honoured by the Archbishop of York, who performed the opening ceremony.
The Reverend Graham Usher, vicar of North Ormesby, said: "The aim of the centre is to provide both the congregation of Holy Trinity Church, as well as local residents with a place of support, learning and culture.
"More than £750,000 has been raised by our supporters and through sponsorship in order to make this facility happen.
"We set ourselves a seemingly impossible task, but together we have achieved a remarkable building for the people of North Ormesby."
Guests at the ceremony were met by Abingdon Primary School's steel band.
Fire swept through the original Holy Trinity Church 26 years ago. Firefighters worked to prevent the fire reaching the roof, and although it could have been restored, the Reverend David Lambert, the then-parish priest, decided to be innovative and build a modern church.
The cloister section of the church now leads into the new facility. Guided tours can be arranged by calling (01642) 286122.
