radio station TFM called on the Green Howards to help to solve a festive problem.

TFM, which is helping the charity Make a Child Smile, has appealed to listeners to donate toys for local children who would otherwise be without presents at Christmas.

It's the seventh year the Make a Child Smile at Christmas appeal has been held, and the charity expects to be able to distribute £70,000-worth of toys to children aged up to 17 who are sick or underprivileged.

Toys are left at collecting points throughout the area, including Bell's stores, Travelcare, Walkabout in Middlesbrough and WH Smith in Stockton.

Getting all the presents together for distribution was proving a mammoth task for TFM - so the Green Howards of the Catterick-based 122 Army Youth Team stepped in to provide transport.

Members of the team were encouraged on their way from the TFM studios in Stockton by Make a Child Smile mascot Macs.

Sgt Chris Gent, from Guisborough, said: "We are delighted to be able to help TFM bring a smile to the faces of children in the area who might otherwise not have any presents."
