A TWO-man anti-vehicle crime team will be keeping an eye on shoppers' cars in Darlington over Christmas.
The motorbike-riding uniformed wardens have increased their presence in the town centre during December, particularly around the council-run car parks.
The move is part of Operation Hawkeye.
Under the operation, the wardens will be on the look-out for cars in which people have left valuables on display.
They will take a note of the car's details and pass the information to the police.
A letter will then be sent to the registered car owner warning them that leaving valuables on display can tempt thieves.
Police will also check the vehicle details to ensure the car details match vehicle records.
Some cars with incorrect registration numbers have already been uncovered by Operation Hawkeye and the cases are being investigated by police.
