MORE than 400 people from Sedgefield borough opted for a healthier lifestyle by taking part in a series of roadshows.

The Your Health Roadshows were organised by a partnership between Sedgefield Primary Care Trust, Tees and Durham Energy Advice, Warm Front, The Pioneering Care Partnership, Sedgefield Borough Council, Age Concern, Durham Constabulary and the Sedgefield Locality Carers Centre.

The roadshows provided people with health checks and flu vaccinations, specialist advice on topics including diabetes, osteoporosis, diet and lifestyle, managing medicines and coronary heart disease.

Workshops and advice sessions on topics including home security, saving energy in the home and claiming benefits were also held.

The roadshows took place in Trimdon Village, West Cornforth, Chilton, Ferryhill, Shildon and Newton Aycliffe.

Alan Gray, chairman of Sedgefield Primary Care Trust (PCT), said: "The events were designed to provide advice, information and practical support on how we all can keep warm, safe, active, and healthy, as we get older.

"People in the Sedgefield borough are more likely to die prematurely compared with many other areas, that is why the PCT is keen to encourage local people to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
