A LONG-established amateur theatre group will take to the stage with a pantomime favourite next month.
The Dryburn Theatrical Workshop will perform Dick Whittington in the Park View Theatre at Chester-le-Street from Tuesday to Saturday, January 10.
There will be a performance interpreted in sign language for deaf or hard-of-hearing members of the audience.
The amateur group has been performing pantomime in Chester-le-Street for 15 years, having moved base from the old Dryburn Hospital, in Durham, where it was formed by hospital staff 27 years ago.
A group spokeswoman said: "This year's panto is the traditional story of Dick Whittington and his rise from humble boy to Lord Mayor of London.
"On his way he meets many characters - King Rat, Sarah the Cook, Idle Jack and Fairy Bow Bells to name but a few.
"As in the last two years, Tuesday evening's performance will be interpreted in British Sign Language.
"This is becoming increasingly popular by providing a service not normally provided in amateur theatre or even in some professional theatres."
The performances are at 7.15pm Tuesday to Friday and 2.30pm (few seats are left) and 6.30pm on Saturday.
Tickets costs £5 for adults and £4 for concessions. To book, call 0191-388 9709.
