THE company that owns two of Durham's nightclubs has taken on a new general manager.

Vimac Leisure, which runs the recently-refurbished DH-1 and neighbouring Caf Rock venues, both in North Road, has appointed Jaclyn Newton, of Low Fell, Gateshead.

She has been in the business for three years and previously was an assistant manager for another North-East company, Ultimate Leisure.

She began her career in Newcastle and spent a year in Leeds before returning to the region.

The clubs particularly attract a customer base of university students on weekday nights.

Having revamped DH-1, the company plans to upgrade Caf Rock early in the New Year, taking its investment in the venues to £1m.

Ms Newton said: "I am delighted to be joining Vimac Leisure and I am looking forward to the challenge ahead.

"DH-1, now fully refurbished, is a fantastic venue and I will continue to promote it as Durham's premier nightclub."
