A SONGBOOK and compact disc of children's songs written by women prisoners, has won an award.
The work, Beyond the Secret Door, had been written and performed by inmates at three prisons, Askham Grange, in York, Durham Prison and Low Newton, in Durham, who each produced nursery rhymes and a lullaby.
Musicians with the Irene Taylor Trust's Music in Prisons project, spent several days in each prison putting music to words and recording songs.
The songbook and CD won the Education and Community Music award at the Performing Rights Society ceremony.
