THREE comedy performers have had a chance to say thank you to one of the stars who helped get them started.
Lee Fenwick, Jason Cook and Ben Traynor are the main members of The Soup Entertainment Company, a comedy team which has been operating in the region since 1999.
They were boosted by a grant from the Sammy Johnson Memorial Fund, set up by the late Tyneside actor's friends and Auf Wiedersehen Pet stars Tim Healy, Jimmy Nail and Kevin Whately.
The men organise memorial concerts and plough the proceeds into helping up-and-coming performers in the North-East.
Mr Fenwick said: "We desperately needed radio mics, a PA system, stage lights and a projector screen which would enable us to be able to play bigger venues and showcase the film work we do.
"We were totally amazed when we received over £1,400."
Tim Healy took time out from playing Captain Hook in pantomime at Newcastle's Theatre Royal to meet the men.
The actor, who returns to TV screens tomorrow in a new series of Auf Wiedersehen Pet, said: "Soup Entertainment Company perfectly fitted the criteria of the fund as talented local performers trying to make the transition to professional performers.
"They were recognised as obviously very dedicated as they have been performing for four years and re-investing all the money they have made. They certainly deserve their grant and I wish them all the best for the future."
The next Sunday for Sammy concerts take place in Newcastle City Hall on Sunday, February 1, at 4pm and again at 8pm. For tickets, call 0191-261 2606.
