PARENTS who drive their children to school are facing parking bans.
Sunderland City Council is planning to introduce the bans outside 15 more schools across Wearside.
The move is part of its Safer Routes to School Scheme to reduce the number of parents who park outside school entrances and cause unnecessary danger for pupils.
There are already similar orders outside several schools on Wearside, as well as measures such as road markings and traffic calming.
One school badly affected by parking problems is Castletown Primary School.
Councillor Thomas Foster, who is a governor at the school, said a parking ban was desperately needed.
"We don't qualify for a lollipop patrol and it's been horrendous outside the school for years," he said.
"The head has sent out letters to parents and we've had the police putting notices on cars parking outside the school giving advice.
"But it seems to have been ignored and a number of people seem determined to park there.
"We've also got a bus stop opposite the school, which makes it even more dangerous. You're always going to get the odd kid who's going to run across the road."
Details of the orders for the 15 schools are on display at the schools, Sunderland Civic Centre, some libraries and electronic village halls.
Representations or objections to the orders must be made to the council's legal and democratic services department by Wednesday, January 21.
The orders are proposed for: Thorney Close Primary School; St Michael's RC Primary School; Sunderland High School; Castletown Primary School; Town End Primary School; Maplewood School; Washington Village Primary School; Holley Park Primary School; Fulwell Infant School; South Hylton Primary School; St Anne's RC Primary School; St Bede's RC Primary School; English Martyr's RC Primary School; Bishop Harland C of E Primary and Castle View School.
