Spennymoor owner Benny Mottram yesterday revealed his delight at the response of the club's supporters to their current crisis.

Moors' Brewery Field clubhouse was destroyed in a fire on Christmas Day, but the supporters have rallied to the club's cause.

Mottram said: "We had a meeting with the supporters last week, and the response has been fantastic.

"They came up with some really good fund raising ideas. I'm really encouraged by that, because it shows how much they care for the club.

"Some supporters have also volunteered to clear up the debris from the fire, and the club is grateful for that.

"We intend to start rebuilding the clubhouse next week.

"We've cleared the rubbish from the old concert room and bar, and hopefully we can start rebuilding the bar area first, which will take at least four weeks.

"We were worried about the future of the club after the fire happened, but now the future isn't in any doubt.

"The only doubts we have now is which league we'll be playing in next season.

"In the meantime, we're using the stand as a bar, because we've got a licence for that."

Moors' home game with Southport on Saturday was postponed because of a frozen pitch, so their next game is at Billingham Synthonia in the Durham Challenge Cup on Tuesday night.

Bishop Auckland's home game with Witton Albion was postponed in the First Division, also because of a frozen pitch. They are also in Durham Challenge cup action on Tuesday, at Durham City against Sunderland Reserves.

In the games that were played, Blyth thumped Marine 5-0, Whitby lost 4-0 at Altrincham, and in the First Division, Gateshead crashed 4-0 at bottom club Ossett Town.
